The NSW Department of Education is introducing proactive measures to limit the impact of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) in our schools.
The expert advice from NSW Health is that schools should remain operational at this time.
We continue to work closely with NSW Health and the Australian Government to monitor and respond to developments and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
Stay up-to-date
- Visit our COVID-19 page for all the latest updates from the department including temporarily non-operational schools, as well as current advice from NSW Health and the Australian Government.
- Download our NSW School Updates app to get alerts straight to your phone.
- Our school safety page provides all the latest updates on any schools that have temporarily ceased operations.
- Follow the department on Facebook.
Keeping students and staff healthy
The health and wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority. We are regularly communicating with schools to:
- implement social distancing measures such as cancelling assemblies, excursions and events
- increase cleaning and hygiene procedures.
If your child is unwell with a respiratory illness, they should stay at home until symptoms clear up.
Learning at home
In many NSW schools teachers already deliver and manage learning activities using online tools such as email, Office 365, G Suite for Education and Adobe Connect.
If your child needs to be self-isolated at home, the school will communicate directly with you and provide learning activities, using their normal communication methods such as the school website, newsletters, emails and other online tools.
