High potential and gifted education (HPGE)

The department is committed to ensuring equitable access to high potential and gifted education for all students, regardless of background or location.

Our school is a place of diversity and opportunity, where every learner belongs. We foster a culture of high expectations and equity in excellence, ensuring every student, regardless of background, has opportunities to develop their potential into talent. We are committed to developing high potential across 4 domains: creative, intellectual, physical and social-emotional. We build positive relationships with families and communities to support all students to reach their potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
We are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive at our school. We provide differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity and higher-order thinking. Educators at our school provide explicit teaching of critical thinking and problem-solving strategies. Our classrooms are safe learning environments that encourage confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance.
Across our school
Our school recognises that every student is individual, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and grow their strengths outside the classroom. We offer a range of whole-school programs that support student growth. These include, Lego Robotics, Chess Club, PSSA Sporting Competitions, Dance Competitions, Choir, Leadership opportunities, School Representative Council and Debating
Across NSW
We provide access to local, state and national competitions and events to help students explore and extend their talents. These include, Public Speaking and the Premiers Spelling Bee. The Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events enable our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration.
