Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

At Banks Public School, SRE is delivered on Tuesday afternoons:

  • K-2 students from 1:55-2:25pm
  • 3-6 students from 2:25-2:55pm

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to where, in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Banks Public School:

Catholic SRE is provided by Diocese of Parramatta. More information about Catholic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit https://ccd.sydneycatholic.org/publications/curriculum-resources/

Combined Christian SRE (using Anglican Curriculum)

Christian SRE is education in Christian beliefs and practices for children of families from various Christian denominations and churches. Christian SRE teachers at this school are authorised and trained by the following approved SRE providers; Anglican Church and IDMC (Indental Disciple Making Church). https://whysre.com.au/sre-curriculum/cep-curriculum-overview/

During the time that SRE/SEE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful activities including reading, private study or homework.

Special Religious Education

A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for education in ethics, faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of parents.
